21 Day Self-Care Challenge

All you need is 21 days to make a habit. One of the biggest habits that I’ve had to make was self-care. How do I take care of me? How do I relax? We take care of the family, the multiple errands that need done, and the never-ending to-do list, just to name a few. I don’t know about you, but it gets exhausting. So, while we live this crazy life God gave us, let’s relax and enjoy the little moments of relaxation.

To get you started I’ve compiled my top 21 ways to relax and put them into a challenge. Do this and by day 22 it’ll become a part of your routine. Trust me!

Day 1: Find your designated “me” time: This was hard for me because I’m busy just like all of you, but this is important! So look at your schedule, where is there a time you can block off just for you. For me, I go in the evenings, but what’s yours? Before the kids get up? Before work? During your lunch break? Before the family gets home for the day? Find it and then go put it into your calendar! ASAP!

Day 2: Take a bubble bath: This is my favorite. Go grab that glass of wine (or water), a good book, and soak it all in. Relax and just enjoy.

Day 3: Go on a walk: Put down the phone! Get some fresh air, pump those endorphins up, and go experience what God created.

Day 4: Try Essential Oils: These have been a life-saver for me. You can buy some through a friend or online, but grab an oil and test it out. My favorites have been Bergamot and Lavender if you’re looking for a stress-reliever oil.

Day 5: Call a friend or family member: Sometimes you just need to talk. Call up someone you haven’t talked to in a while and catch up.

Day 6: Watch an old movie: Sometimes you need a night where you curl up with your favorite blanket, a bowl of popcorn, and a glass of Riesling and watch your favorite old-time movie. Suggestion? The Breakfast Club! You can never go wrong with that masterpiece.

Day 7: Write down 3 things you are grateful for: When you take time to appreciate the goodness in your life you realize how good you got it. God is always showering us with blessings, some may just be harder to find than others.

Day 8: Make your favorite meal: Go make that favorite comfort food meal that may or may not be healthy and just enjoy it.

Day 9: Do yoga: Yoga can be such a relaxing way to quickly reliever stresses from the day. You can YouTube something or go to a studio.

Day 10: Mani Pedi: There is nothing better than going and getting your nails done. Grab and friend and go!

Day 11: Color: They have incredible adult coloring books that are easy to get lost in. Grab one or print some off online and escape.

Day 12: Journal: Sometime just writing down all your thoughts and feelings can take off that stress from the day.

Day 13: Treat Yo’ Self: Yes, Parks and Rec! (Fans will know why I chose 13) Go buy something for yourself. Flowers. Book. Movie. What’s something you’ve wanted, but you’ve put off time and time again. Go get it!

Day 14: Listen to your favorite band: Download your favorite band’s album, sit outside on the balcony (or porch) and stare up at the stars.

Day 15: Sleep or Take a Nap: Depending on when you do your “me” time go to bed early, get those full 8 hours, or take an hour nap. Grab back some of that energy that has been zapped from the day.

Day 16: Write a love letter to yourself: Throughout life we always have a tendency to get down on ourselves. Write a letter that is loving on you. Read it whenever you need a pick-me-up.

Day 17: Do a digital detox: Go through all your subscriptions and click unsubscribe. Get rid of all the unwanted emails in your inbox.

Day 18: Join a Bible Study: There is nothing more empowering than getting with a group of people who are only pushing you towards the Lord. Ask your local church or a friend where they go. You won’t be disappointed.

Day 19: Listen to a Podcast: Hop onto iTunes and find a podcast that seems interesting. A favorite of mine is anything Tony Robbins. That man can make anyone feel like a million bucks!

Day 20: Have a dance party: Sometimes you need to just unwind and let loose. Turn on your favorite tunes and bust a move. Feel free to invite friends over to make it a party.

Day 21: Spend time with God: Grab your Bible and just read. The greatest way to relax and depart from the world’s chaos is to spend time with the Creator.

Now, pick a day and start the challenge. Feel free to comment the best way you love to relax I would love to hear your favorites!
