It’s Okay To Not Be Okay During Coronavirus Quarantine

It’s okay to not be okay during the Coronavirus quarantine. It’s okay to feel anxious, stressed, scared, and/or overwhelmed.

I’m going to repeat this: It’s okay!

Quit telling yourself you need to have it all together. You need to be the Pinterest mom and the award winning homeschool teacher.

These are strange times. Honestly, doesn’t it almost feel like I am Legend style? You know, walking the streets with no one around, stores depleted, and people wondering if you’re infected or not. Now, if only we could have Will Smith around to brighten our mood.

We are living in a time where there is fear everywhere you look. For example, news…fear.

Facebook…fear.

Google searches…fear.

Strange texts from “a friend of a friend”…fear.

Everywhere is fear ridden material, so of course you’re going to feel anxious and scared. Me too. There really isn’t a guide book for  this type of thing. Honestly, there is a lot of vague things coming from higher ups that make this girl just a touch frightened. Yes, I’m sorta a Ron Swanson. SO when it comes to things like this  I’m a little more “Leave me in peace.” 😉

Throughout all this fear, I want you to know it’s okay to feel that way. To feel like you’re not in control and to feel overwhelmed. I mean, you’re working from home and teaching your kids school. Maybe you’re a stay at home mom and no longer have the library and fun activities, outside of the home, to take your kids. Things are not normal. It’s okay.

Yet, can I tell you what’s not okay?

Allowing the fear and anxiety to take over your mind and your heart.

Yes, it’s weird times, during the Coronavirus quarantine, and it’s making a lot of us stir-crazy and anxious. Yet, if you’re not doing anything to help overcome that…well, my heart hurts for you. There are a lot of things you can be doing to help keep that anxiousness at bay.

Will you succeed every second of every day?

No.

Heck, I am the “Mental Health Guru” of my friend group and even I ugly cried about 4 times this week and gave myself a migraine. You’re never going to fully overcome, but you can trend up. You can give yourself a fighting chance as Jim Carey likes to say.

How Faith? How do I guard my heart?

Well, you need to start making your habits reflect the inner peace you desire.

For example, how are you eating?

Are you just fast-food ordering? Boxed Mac and Cheese every day? Maybe throw in some fruit or veggies. Drink more water than you normally would. You need to eat healthier. Yes, I’ll be your mama and tell you that.

How about being active?

If there was ever a time to release those happy endorphins now would be the time. Do some squats and jumping jacks before getting in the shower. Search Youtube for free workouts. An amazing blessing going all around are the people putting their yoga routines and workouts, for free, on Youtube. Take advantage of that!

Are you finding the blessings throughout this Coronavirus?

Have you ever heard the story about what you focus on grows? It’s like when you buy a car. You say, “No one has a BMW I’m going to be so cool.” Then you pull it out of the parking lot and on your way home you spot 10 BMWs. “Whoa! Where did those come from?” Well, they were always there you just never noticed them until now.

Same with negativity.

Negativity is abound right now. Look for the blessings. Create a blessings board, in your kitchen, every time you find a blessing write it down.

More family time?

Not wearing make-up?

Home-cooked meals?

Write it all down. Do it as a family activity, nightly. What are the blessings in your life? Be thankful for them!

Please, just remember that it’s okay to feel all these feelings. What isn’t okay is to allow them to take over. Know that A LOT of people are feeling what you are feeling. You are not alone. Reach out, FaceTime, let people know how you are doing and in those moments we can grow closer and stronger together.

Pray this is a blessing!
