Top 5 Books For Your Mental Health

Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to improve your mental health, but had no idea where to start! You realize you need to lift your lid and so you think “Hmm…maybe a book will help sort this problem out.” Yet, you start searching and are hit with thousands of books each claiming they’ll help you in some form.

Anyone relate?

That was me when I started my journey with mental health. I realized I needed to take control and I knew I’d find help somewhere in the pages of the book written by people who knew more than me. Unfortunately, having gone through book after book, I can tell you not all are great finds.

This is why I wanted to make a list of my top five favorite mental health books. Books that are worth the $15 or $20 price tag. Books that I still to this day grab off my shelf and find the pink sticky note to help me during a difficult time.

Top 5 Books:

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis: Okay, you know I was going to make this part of my list. If you haven’t read her book, you need to! She breaks down all those lies we tell ourselves and combats it with such incredible personal development and life stories reminding us we are worth more. I couldn’t put this  book down!

What You Say When You Talk To Yourself by Shad Helmstetter: This is my go-to book when anyone tells me they want to get rid of their negative thoughts. It gives you all the information you need to do just that. Also giving you multiple affirmations to start taking control over your thoughts. Some of these affiramtions I still use today.

The Chemistry of Calm by Henry Emmons: One of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced in my mental health journey is how to overcome my anxiety and depression holistically. Henry gives a great background on anxiety and the different types and then gives a plan on how to overcome using a healthy, holistic approach through food, habits, and techniques.

Switch On Your Brain by Dr. Caroline Leaf: This is a great book if you want to know the science behind anxiety, depression, and just mental health in general. She breaks down all the scientific stuff in a way that this girl can understand. After explaining all the nitty-gritty, that is actually super interesting, she gives a great detox plan to start you off on the right track.

The Holy Bible: In my honest opinion, if you are going to have a conversation about self-worth this book needs to be included. Now, I’m not here to preach, I’ll do that in person. 🙂 Yet, I strongly encourage you to take a peak and start reading. You’ll be surprised how your self-worth will change right before your eyes.
