Why You Need To Add Affirmations To Your Daily Routine

Let’s talk affirmations.

Yep, the words we speak. How much weight do they really hold? A little or a lot? Now, my past self would want me to say, “They hold no weight. Keep doing what you are doing, girl.” Yet, when I took a look at my self-image I realized they hold all the cards.

So what about you?

What’s your self-talk like? Negative?

Sometimes positive? With the right filter anything can be positive, right?

You see, we live in a world were people are terrified of voicing their own opinions for fear of backlash. Yet, we say whatever we want about our body, our lives, and our relationships to ourselves.

Anyone see the crazy in that?

But, isn’t that what we are taught, to tell the world the highlight reel but, keep the bloopers to yourself?

It’s like that verse in Miranda Lambert’s song Mama’s Broken Heart, “Go hide your crazy and start acting like a lady.”  Now, we all know Miranda was talking about not being a crazy ex-girlfriend but, don’t we act that way towards our words. We speak crazy, unwholesome truth and then are shocked when our world reflects that.

In Proverbs 18:21 it says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its’ fruits.”

Right there. Smack dab in the middle of the Bible does it tell us the power our tongues have over us. Now, by just speaking positively will your life automatically change?

Uh. Yes! 😉

Ha. Just kidding. Maybe not.

You know what will change? Your outlook.

You see, for me I found myself just smiling more. Why? Because I felt insanely silly for standing in front of my bathroom mirror telling myself, “I live a life of passion, power, and purpose.” It’s weird. I know.

So I ask you, is it worth it?

Is it worth standing in front of the mirror, or speaking to yourself on your drive to work, to see if this will help change your life for the better?

For me, that’s a YES!

Again, will you immediately get out of depression? No.

Although, what if it helped you take one step closer?

Will it immediately change your self-esteem from negative to positive? No.

Yet, what if you woke up one morning, speaking life into your life and you found yourself excited to check yourself out. Giving yourself a little, “How you doin?” Joey style.

Isn’t that worth a shot? Just to see what could happen? To see the blessings that could come from it?

Lastly, by speaking positively about your hopes, your dreams, and your self-image you are making yourself aware of things around you. If I say, “I live an abundant life.” Guess what I’m thinking about for that day? How abundant my life is! When I speak, “I constantly express gratitude.” I’m finding things to be thankful for. Affirmations are such a key component to making you self-aware to the things around you.

So try it out. Find an affirmation, write it on a sticky note, and say it for a week every morning. Don’t tell me it didn’t help your life in some sort of way big or small. Remember, the world is going to try to tear you down. The devil is going to put in lies. Put in false doubts and insecurities about your future and your dreams. Please don’t help him out by continuing to speak poorly.
